Brushed steel has a directional grain that catches the light differently depending on the angle — which gives it a tactile, material quality that pure metallic finishes often lack. It's a finish that rewards being looked at closely, which is exactly what you'd want from something you interact with every day.

It's a natural choice for contemporary interiors — open-plan kitchens, utilitarian hallways, spaces that favour honest materials over decorative artifice. But brushed steel also works particularly well as a contrast finish: against warm timber in a Scandinavian-influenced interior, or alongside exposed brick in a converted industrial space, it provides exactly the right note of precision.
